KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The dynamic duo of Brett Mahony and Carson Murphy helped the Kearney Catholic Stars dominate Wahoo last Friday, en route to a berth in the C-1 semifinals.

Mahony, the quarterback for the Stars, found Murphy for two touchdowns in the game, including a spectacular one early on.

“I was just scrambling, trying not to get sacked, I think it was 3rd and 5,” said Mahony. “I knew he was running a route across the field and it was kinda like my last ditch effort and I saw he was open so I threw it across my body.”

Murphy is a sophomore on the team, and has really come into his own this season.

“He’s one of those guys that, you tell the freshmen hey he didn’t play very much last year, but he stepped into a big role this year,” explained Mahony.

“I’m a quarterback but they had me at receiver because they thought I could help the team there,” said Murphy. “It’s just help the team, and helping us make a run here.”

As the Stars prepare for the semifinal on Friday, Mahony and Murphy are excited to show out for K-C on their home turf.

“I’m just excited to have one more game at Myles Field and hopefully we can get past this semifinal hump,” said Mahony. “I know last year we got stopped by Adams Central but we’re trying to get back to the championship game and do something no Kearney CAtholic team has ever done.”
