Woman, girl arrested after fleeing Old Navy with more than $800 in stolen clothing: Solon Police Blotter

SOLON, Ohio

Theft: Kruse Drive

At 4:45 p.m. Nov. 2, officers were called to the Old Navy store, 6025 Kruse Drive, on a report of shoplifting. A female suspect had left the store with an armful of stolen merchandise, then drove away in a white Honda sedan.

Police checked the area and found the Honda parked outside Dick’s Sporting Goods in Bainbridge Township. Inside the car were two females and stolen Old Navy clothing totaling $839.74.

Officers detained a Cleveland woman, 27, and a Cleveland Heights girl, 16.

Police charged the woman with theft. Charges against the girl were referred to juvenile court. The girl was turned over to her mother. The clothing was returned to the store.

Theft: Bainbridge Road

At 7 p.m. Oct. 29, management at The Rollhouse, 33185 Bainbridge Road, reported that a male customer had driven off without paying his tab of $67.50.

The man, at first, had attempted to use a credit card to pay the bill, but the card was denied. He said the card belonged to his girlfriend and that he had to go outside to his car to get his ID. The man took the credit card and was last seen driving away in a white Dodge truck.

Investigation of the vehicle revealed the man’s identity. A warrant was issued for the arrest of the suspect, 47, of Shaker Heights. The man is wanted for theft and illegal use of a credit card.

OVI: Aurora Road

At 8:10 p.m. Oct. 30, an officer on patrol came upon a car stopped, with its hazard lights blinking, on Aurora Road just west of Solon Road. The driver’s window was down even though it was raining.

The officer asked the woman in the driver’s seat what was wrong. The woman, 41, of Cleveland, replied that she was merely adjusting her mirror.

The woman smelled of alcohol and her eyes appeared to be bloodshot. Field sobriety tests were administered, the woman performed poorly, and she was arrested for OVI.

The woman was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .072, below the state minimum for drunk driving of .08. The woman refused to have her urine tested.

Inside the woman’ s car, police found suspected marijuana, a smoking pipe and an alcoholic drink in a plastic cup. Police further charged the woman with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

OVI: Harper Road

At 11:25 p.m. Oct. 30, an officer on patrol was driving north on Harper Road when he noticed a car ahead stopped in the road. As the police car approached and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the car rolled backward a bit before driving forward and away from the scene.

The car continued on its way until stopping at 5300 Harper Road.

The driver, a Cleveland woman, 30, was wearing a Halloween costume that involved red contact lenses. The officer smelled alcohol on the woman’s person and, from inside her car, the odor of marijuana.

A preliminary roadside breath test revealed a high blood-alcohol content. The woman, who admitted to having a “couple” drinks, was taken into custody. She then complained of a medical emergency.

Solon paramedics took the woman to an emergency room, where she submitted to a urine test.

Meanwhile, a suspected marijuana grinder was found in the woman’s car. Police charged the woman with OVI, driving under suspension, improper backing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

OVI: Ohio 91

At 3:25 a.m. Oct. 31, an officer stopped a car for speeding on Ohio 91. The driver, a Solon man, 18, was wearing a Halloween costume and admitted to having a “couple” drinks at a party.

The man failed field sobriety tests and was found to have in his car marijuana and drug paraphernalia. An open bottle of whiskey was also recovered. The man had a BAC of .08.

Police arrested and charged the man with OVI, having a prohibited BAC, speeding, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol.

Theft: Aurora Road

At 2:30 p.m. Oct. 31, an employee of Giant Eagle, 34310 Aurora Road, reported that he had followed out of the store a man who had a cartful of goods for which he hadn’t paid. Once outside, the man, seeing that he was being followed, left the cart and got into a car that was driven off.

Officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle on U.S. 422 and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect, 36, of Twinsburg, was a passenger in the car. He admitted to trying to steal the merchandise, which totaled $312.

Police charged the man with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued a criminal trespass warning, keeping him away from Giant Eagle.

The car’s driver, a Cleveland man, 38, said he was unaware of the attempted theft and was released.

OVI: Ohio 91

At 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31, an officer observed a Chevrolet Tahoe straddling lane markers while traveling south on Ohio 91.

The vehicle stopped for a red light, but did not immediately proceed when the light turned green. The car only began moving forward when the car behind it sounded its horn.

A traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a Cleveland man, 52, had a glazed expression and slurred speech. The man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was found to have a BAC of .209.

Police charged the man with OVI, having a prohibited BAC, driving under suspension, a marked-lanes violation and driving with expired plates.
