The Citadel Republican Society will honor former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley during its annual Patriots Dinner in December.
The former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations will be a guest speaker during the event and receive the group's Nathan Hale Patriot Award, which includes a Revolutionary War musket mounted for display.
The award is presented every year to a national, state or local official who "embodies the selfless leadership of Nathan Hale."
Hale was a soldier and spy for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He was captured and executed at the age of 21, at which time he spoke the famous words "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."
The dinner supports the cadets of the Citadel Republican Society and an annual four-day trip to (CPAC) the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, December 12 at John Monroe J. Holliday Alumni Center.
Haley served as the 116th and first female Governor of South Carolina from 2011-2017.
