Report: Miami Dolphins place Greg Mancz on injured reserve, sign unproven center

The Miami Dolphins have lost a key part of their offensive line for at least a few games.

The team placed Greg Mancz on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Mancz, who was expected to miss Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with an ankle injury, will now have to miss at least three weeks.

The 29-year-old has appeared in five games for Miami this season, making four starts. He was replaced by Austin Reiter last week in the team’s win over the Houston Texans.

Miami also made a move to improve its depth with Mancz out, as it signed 26-year-old center Cameron Tom.

Tom has appeared in 12 games in his NFL career. He played in 11 games for the New Orleans Saints in the 2018 season, making one start. He also played in a game for the Saints during the 2020 campaign.

The Dolphins are just 2-7 on the season, but they are hoping to upset the Ravens in Week 10. Miami picked up a much-needed win over the lowly Texans in Week 9, but the injury bug continues to hurt the Dolphins.

The team wants quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to play through a finger injury this week, but it is possible that backup Jacoby Brissett gets another start this year.

Brissett is 1-3 as a starter this season and has thrown for five touchdowns and four interceptions in the 2021 campaign. He and Tagovailoa won’t have much time to get acclimated to taking snaps from either Reiter or Tom under center in Week 10.

The Dolphins and Ravens are scheduled to kick off at 8:20 p.m. EST tomorrow night.
