We don’t care about all the rumors that it’s going to be 90 degrees this weekend - it’s holiday season, and that means you’ll find us happily sweating it out in hunter-green turtlenecks for the next few days. You’ll also find us at any of these events. From eating Chicago-style hot dogs to getting drunk inside a museum, here is what we’re looking forward to this week.
The Events
If you’re like us and already know there’s zero chance you’re baking your own pie for Thanksgiving this year, pre-order from Chainsaw starting this Thursday, November 11th. The Eastside pop-up makes some of our favorite desserts in the city, and this year, they’re selling an apple-strawberry-date pie and their famous passionfruit + lime icebox pie for Thanksgiving. Note: Don’t procrastinate, they will sell out. Looking for other Thanksgiving takeout options? Here are 30 more.
Chicago-style hot dog purists, listen up. After a month-long hiatus, Midwestern comfort food stand ComfyPup is popping up this Sunday, November 15th at Indie Brew Co. in Boyle Heights from 1-5pm. Expect Italian beef sandwiches, pork tenderloins, and absolutely no ketchup on hot dogs.
Does your dream night entail getting kind of drunk while walking around a science museum? If so, snag tickets to Brewsology Beer Fest. The one-night-only event is being held on Saturday, November 13th at the California Science Center from 7-11pm. There will be close to 50 different brewers present and guests will have special access to museum exhibits and science demonstrations.
Over in Virgil Village, Melody has another fantastic line-up this week, including Malli, a Mexican-inspired Jewish pop-up, running from Thursday, November 11th through Saturday, the 13th, and Budonoki on Sunday, the 14th. The pop-up izakaya will serve everything from karaage and char sui pork jowl to two different types of oshizushi.
The excellent Leimert Park cafe is hosting a special Friendsgiving Brunch this Sunday, November 14th. At $54 per person, the five-course meal will include dishes ranging from short rib and eggs to sweet potato pancakes with cognac, plus their signature apple pie martini.
