Frank S. “Sam” Knight, Jr., 85, of Hamburg, passed awaypeacefully on Monday, November 1, 2021, with his familyby his side. On April 12, 1936, he was born in Milo,Arkansas and grew up in Hamburg. Sam graduated fromHamburg High School in 1954 and joined the UnitedStates Air Force the following year. After he wasdischarged in 1958, he soon began a career with GeorgiaPacific in tissue paper converting that lasted over thirtyyears.
Sam was a member of Egypt Missionary Baptist Churchand a former member of the Hamburg Tractor Club. Heloved riding his tractor around his land, tending to hiscows, and going to watch sprint car races.
He was a sweet and gentle man who had a quiet naturebut always enjoyed playing the occasional practicaljokes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank StantonKnight, Sr. and Addie Moore Knight, and five sisters,Laverne Burchell, Frances Tyson, Margie Noble, LucilleEtheridge, and Ruth Murphy.
He leaves behind his wife of sixty years, Margie ClarkKnight of Hamburg; and two sons, Greg Knight (Linda) ofRockwall, TX, and Jeff Knight (Lisa) of Hamburg; andone sister, Judy Van Arsdel of Fort Worth, TX; along withthree grandchildren, Melanie Hutchison of Conway,AR, Chris Knight of Leavenworth, KS, and CharlesShelton of Humble, TX; three great-grandchildren; and ahost of special nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2:00 p.m.,Friday, November 5 at the Egypt Missionary BaptistChurch, 563 Ashley Rd 95, in Hamburg, with Pastor KeithRose, officiating followed by interment at EgyptCemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Homeof Crossett. Pallbearers were Tony, Stan, and MickeyCraig, Robb Knight, Charles Shelton, James Smith, andMike Murphy. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Box,Kenneth Knight, Rick Robertson, J.W. Harris, and Bro.Buddy Boykin.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Friday at the church prior to the service.
