El Pasoan dies, two Las Crucens injured in Hudspeth County accident

An El Pasoan died and two people from Las Cruces were injured earlier this week in an accident near Dell City.

The wreck happened about 6:40 a.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 62/180 in Hudspeth County about 34 miles west of Dell City, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.

Christian Acosta Esparza, of El Paso, was driving a 1989 Chevrolet 1500 pickup when it began having issues and he had to stop in the eastbound lane of the highway, officials said.

A 2020 Chevrolet Express passenger van driven by Jodai Eli Garcia Diaz with Manuel Ramirez, both from Las Cruces, then struck the pickup, officials said.

The collision caused the pickup to catch fire.

Acosta Esparza, 38, died at the scene of the accident.

Garcia Diaz, 22, suffered serious injuries, while Ramirez, 36, sustained minor injuries in the accident.

No further information on the wreck has been released.
