Netflix’s The School For Good and Evil Film Adds Ben Kingsley and More

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar winner Ben Kingsley (Ghandi), Golden Globe winner Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), and Grammy winner Pattie LuPone (Pose) have officially signed on to join the ensemble cast of Netflix’s coming-of-age fantasy film The School for Good and Evil. In addition, Deadpool 2 actor Rob Delaney, Mark Heap (Stardust), and Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead) have also been tapped to join the adaptation, based on Soman Chainani’s novel of the same name.

Production wrapped last July, which mostly took place in Northern Ireland. The film is expected to make its debut sometime in 2022.

The School for Good and Evil will be led by Sophia Anne Caruso (Jack of the Red Hearts) and Sofia Wylie (High School Musical: The Musical – The Series), who are tapped to play the leading roles of Sophie and Agatha. Joining them are Charlize Theron as Lady Lesso, Kerry Washington as Professor Dovey, Laurence Fishburne as The School Master/ Rafal Mistral, and Michelle Yeoh as Professor Anemone, along with Jamie Flatters, Earl Cave, Emma Lau, Kit Young, and Briony Scarlett.

“The film adaptation centers around best friends Sophie and Agatha, who are about to discover where fairytale legacies go to school: The School for Good and Evil,” reads the synopsis. “Sophie knows she’ll be picked for the School of Good and join alums like Cinderella and Snow White, while Agatha knows she’s fit for the Evil School. However, when their fortunes are reversed, their friendship is put to the test, and the girls discover who they really are.”

The film is directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) from a screenplay adapted by David Magee (Life of PiMarry Poppins Returns) and Laura Solon (Office Christmas PartyLet It Snow). Producers are Joe Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Jane Startz, and Feigco’s Feig and Laura Fischer, with Zack Roth, Patricia Riggen, and Chainani set as executive producers.

The School for Good and Evil is the first of six novels in the series, which has sold over 2.5 million copies and has been translated into 30 languages.
