Music icon Missy Elliot has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Earning her star in the “Recording" category, Elliot is being recognized for her illustrious career and contributions to hip-hop.
"I know a lot of people say (Missy it’s bout Time) but this was the right time (God’s Timing)& I am Grateful!" Elliot said in a Monday post on Twitter.
In an emotional and inspiring speech, Elliot took the chance to thank her family and friends.
"Through the grace of God and faith, I've kept going. If I hadn't, I wouldn't be standing here," Elliott said in the speech recorded by Variety. "I'd come here 20 years ago and used to walk past all these stars and imagine."
“One of the most significant female artists in music history,” representatives of Walk of Fame said. "A pioneer of female hip-hop and R&B, groundbreaking songwriter-producer, and across-the-board cultural icon."
Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez praised Elliot for the barriers she's broken for female artists.
“Missy Elliott has broken through the barriers of the male-dominated Hip Hop world and music industry as a whole," Martinez said. "she has led the way for many women who have followed in her footsteps. She continues to break barriers year after year and we’re thrilled to be able to honor her on the Walk of Fame."
