TULSA, Okla. — The Richard Lloyd Jones, Jr. Airport has a new name.

The Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust’s Board of Trustees have approved a resolution to change the name to Tulsa Riverside Airport. The airport’s code, RVS, will remain the same.

The name will be effective Jan. 1, 2022.

The Board of Trustees decided to change the name to make it easier for pilots and other community stakeholders to recognize the airport.

The name change will also help clear any confusion with the Jones Memorial Airport, which is located in Bristow.

“So many of our pilots and neighbors refer to the airport by this name already, so making it official was a priority of ours,” said Austin Wheeler, Airport Manager for Richard Lloyd Jones, Jr. Airport.

The Tulsa Riverside Airport was renamed the Richard Lloyd Jones, Jr. Airport in 1978, to honor his service on the Board of Trustees. Jones’ name will now be listed in Tulsa International Airport’s Schwab Hall.
