MLB rumors: Ex-Yankees left-hander signs with Dodgers

Former New York Yankees left-hander Andrew Heaney is heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

And we’re off.

A former New York Yankees left-hander got MLB free agency rolling Monday, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Free-agent LHP Andrew Heaney in agreement with Dodgers on one-year contract, pending physical, sources tell @TheAthletic. Deal is for more than $8 million - the amount Robbie Ray got from the Blue Jays a year ago. Heaney, as @JoelSherman1 noted, viewed as similar upside play.

Heaney was, in a word, horrible after heading to the Yankees in a trade deadline deal with the Los Angeles Angels. He went 2-2 with a 7.32 ERA in 12 appearances for New York, losing his spot in the rotation after just five starts.

Overall, Heaney was 8-9 with a 5.83 ERA in 30 appearances (23 starts) this season.

The Yankees acquired the 30-year-old southpaw on July 30 in exchange for minor league right-handed pitchers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero.

Heaney joins a Los Angeles Dodgers team in a state of flux. Both left-hander Clayton Kershaw and right-hander Max Scherzer, each a three-time Cy Young Award winner, are free agents and available on the open market.
