JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two women are dead after they were involved in a wrong-way crash on the Hart Bridge, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened at 12:19 a.m. Monday in downtown Jacksonville.
A 28-year-old Jacksonville woman was driving eastbound on the Hart Bridge from Gator Bowl Boulevard in the westbound lane, when FHP said her SUV struck a Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus, that was traveling west in the same lane, head-on.
She and her 26-year-old passenger, a woman also from Jacksonville, were taken to UF Health Jacksonville where they died of their injuries. Both were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, FHP stated.
FHP said the 56-year-old driver of the JTA bus was not hurt. The bus was “out of service” at the time, the crash report stated.
Lanes were closed following the deadly incident, but have since reopened.
Action News Jax reported in 2018 when three deadly wrong-way crashes happened within a month in Jacksonville. Two were on the Hart Bridge. The other was on the Wonderwood Bridge.
