PAUL PETERSON

CALLENDER — Paul H. Peterson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the Villa Cottages, Fort Dodge, at the age of 94. A funeral service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Deb Stano and Pastor Greg Stano officiating. Burial will be at the Callender Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 4:00 at the Church. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie, is serving the family.

Paul was born on September 13, 1927, to Percy and Inger (Heggen) Peterson at Callender. He was baptized Sept. 25, 1927. In 1943 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Our Saviour’s where he was a life-long member attending many Bible Study groups. He married Arlene Scharf on Sept. 6, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ft. Dodge. They raised their family on a Holstein dairy farm west of Callender until 1974, when they sold the herd and moved east of Gowrie and he did custom farming with his sons. In 1991, they moved to Callender. Arlene passed away in 1999.

Paul graduated from Somers High School, was a 4-H leader, served on many boards beyond the local church — Ingham/Okoboji Bible Camp, Outside Council of Church of the Damascus Road, prison ministry, and took several mission trips to Mexico. A true Norwegian, he enjoyed three trips to Norway, and fishing trips with his brothers and other family members. He loved tending to his flowers.

He retired from farming in 2010. On Sept. 26, 2010, he married Betty Lane and they resided in Callender. After Betty’s passing in Oct. 2020, he moved to the Villa Cottages where he resided.

Preceding him in death are his parents, wife Arlene, son Roger, and infant daughter Ruth Ann, infant granddaughter Andrine, second wife Betty, and brother Phillip.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Kent (Kim) Peterson of Callender, Kevin (Jan) Peterson of Boxholm; his daughter, Rachel Peterson of Callender; daughter-in-law Linda Peterson of Fort Dodge; along with six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 17 step great-grandchildren; and 3 step great-great grandchildren; brother David (Evie) of Lafayette, IL; Raymond (Nancy) Scharf of Fort Dodge, and many other relatives and friends.
