Florida has fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and offensive line coach John Hevesy, according to multiple reports.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic was the first to report the news, and Gators Territory confirmed the news, citing sources.

Grantham, who got a contract extension in 2019, makes roughly $1.8 million dollar a year and has been Florida head coach Dan Mullen’s defensive coordinator since 2017 season. Contracts for both Grantham and Hevsey run out at the end of this season.

Hevesy has been on the same staff with Mullen since the 2001 season when with Urban Meyer at Bowling Green. Grantham has been with Mullen for five seasons, including stints at Florida and Mississippi State.

Florida, coming off a 40-17 loss to South Carolina on Saturday and the first three-game losing streak since 2017, is giving up 24.7 points per game this season. During the three-game losing streak, Florida has been gashed for 266 yards a game.

Interestingly, Mullen said after the Gators’ loss to LSU on Oct. 16, he was against firing coaches during the season.

“Nah, I don’t like to jump to conclusions,” he said. “It’s a long season on stuff right there. I like to know the facts on everything that’s going on and what the issues are and what we’re doing and what we need to do to improve and how we’re going to do that.”

The Gators (4-5, 2-5) entered Saturday’s game with South Carolina averaging 242 yards a game on the ground and 483 yards of total offense, third best in the SEC. But South Carolina became the first team this season to outgain them, 459-340.

“You go look throughout the season, there’s a lot of little things that have gone wrong,” Mullen said Saturday after his team lost four of the past five games. “We’re not doing things that you play winning football at.”
