Weeks ago, NASCAR fans chanted, “Fuck Joe Biden!” from the grandstands after the conclusion of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Prior to that, the chant had been popular at college football games.

Watch the Matt DiBenedetto video below.

Brandon Brown was the winner of that race. He climbed from his car for a front stretch interview moments after the win.

The NBC Sports reporter mistook the chant as, “Let’s go Brandon!” A simple misunderstanding has turned into a movement.

“Let’s go Brandon” has been heard at all types of sporting events since. It even returned this weekend at Phoenix Raceway for NASCAR’s championship finale.

NASCAR isn’t a fan of the phrase

Ahead of this very race weekend, NASCAR made it clear they weren’t in favor in the phrase.

NASCAR President Steve Phelps denounced the movement. It was the first time the sanctioning body spoke on the popular phrase that’s been heard after many of their races.

Phelps said, “Unfortunately, I think it tells us where we are as a nation. We don’t want to connect ourselves with left or right politics.”

You can view all of Phelp’s comments at the situation below.

Most of the drivers have avoided the phrase, if not all of them. With one exception…

Matt DiBenedetto is set to run his last race with Wood Brothers Racing. He becomes a free agent at the end of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Previously, DiBenedetto said he’s been talking to multiple teams about next year. However, he added that he’s being selective as he wants to be able to speak his mind.

On Saturday, the NASCAR Cup Series rolled to the grid for qualifying.

DiBenedetto shared a video of him climbing into the car ahead of qualifying. Before doing so, he said, “Let’s go Brandon!”

The video was shared to DiBenedetto’s Instagram with the caption, “It’s a movement that’s for sure…had a blast with my friend Benny Johnson today! Was proud to talk about fighting for our country and appreciating our military heroes who serve to defend our freedom.”

Political talker Benny Johnson is in the NASCAR garage area at Phoenix. After qualifying, he asked DiBenedetto why he said the phrase before getting in the car.

DiBenedetto responded, “Gotta fight for God, Country and Freedom, that’s why.”

On Sunday, DiBenedetto is set to start would could be his final NASCAR Cup Series race. It’s certainly his last in the No. 21 car.

“So thankful for this year and the fun we’ve had. The family we have here in our race team. I love them, they’re the best. Excited to go out here and hopefully have an excellent race. We’ll go have some fun wheeling this No. 21 car for the last time,” DiBenedetto shared via a separate social media post ahead of his final race with the Wood Brothers.

After last week at Martinsville, Kyle Busch used a slur in his post-race interview. DiBenedetto commented on that interview via twitter then abruptly deleted his account. He said, “That platform is too far gone.”

DiBenedetto is still looking for a ride ahead of the 2022 season.
