31-year-old Carthage woman dies in rollover crash, police say

Denmark, N.Y. — A driver was killed and a passenger injured when the driver lost control of the car, crashed and rolled over Saturday night in Lewis County, according to the New York State Police.

Emily S. Ashline, 31, of Carthage, was driving east on Deer River Road in the town of Denmark at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when her 2016 GMC Terrain crossed into the westbound lane, off the road and hit a barbed wire fence and several fence posts, troopers said in a news release.

She steered the car back into the eastbound lane, but went down an embankment, where the car landed on its roof near Deer River, troopers said. Where the car landed was very rocky, they said.

Ashline was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said A passenger was taken to Lewis County General Hospital and released, police said.
