Dr. James Mason is a visiting academic at The University of Manchester. James earned his Master's degree in Physics from The University of Manchester in 2016, and later went on to complete his PhD at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in 2021. During his PhD, James was the recipient of the prestigious President's Doctoral Scholar award, which recognizes exceptional postgraduate researchers committed to working on challenging research projects in world-leading research environments.

James' work has been featured on BBC Radio 4 and in Transform magazine, and he received audience favourite and runner-up prizes in the 2019 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. He also co-hosted the Tyndall Centre's official podcast from 2020 to 2022, where he interviewed a number of the centre's academics about their world-leading research.

James is skilled in quantitative work and is proficient in optimisation techniques, data analysis, and data visualisation.
