The Light Within: Like Christ Jesus did, express what you believe in

On numerous occasions, Christ Jesus expressed himself — even when his disciples were doubtful. This enabled him, through God’s presence in his life, to correct long-held beliefs and to heal physical and mental diseases.

If we believe in the need to change or to maintain for the good of our society, in government for example, shouldn’t we voice our opinions through speaking and/or writing?

Christ Jesus was not afraid or hesitant to speak of God’s loving power: “… This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears” (Luke 4:21).

However, he subsequently was subject to a crowd who “… thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. But he passing through the midst of them went his way … “ (Luke 4:29-30).

He was protected by realizing the presence of God.

We are fortunate in our country today that we have laws that protect freedom of speech. Nevertheless, we sometimes hesitate to say or write something that we believe would be better if changed or retained by policy or law.

If we do express our ideas we possibly can make our country or community just a little better.

Several years ago, a student in my college class wrote to a national company to ask them to correct some incorrect wording on their customer checkout lines. They agreed to the change, and expressed appreciation for the correction. Just think how apparently one letter had a significant impact on a major company!

I perceive a little better America from our active expression of ideas.

It is “better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness” (attributed to an ancient Chinese proverb).
