Dodgers News: Scott Alexander and Andy Burns Among 3 Removed from 40 Man Roster

The Dodgers made some moves on Friday afternoon. But not in the way you’d hope during the hot stove season. Today’s roster moves were more to set up the upcoming offseason and possibly to create some room on the roster to protect against the Rule 5 Draft.

First, the moves.

Scott Alexander, Andy Burns and Jimmie Sherfy have been outrighted off the 40-man roster.

Left-handed reliever Scott Alexander, righty reliever Jimmie Sherfy, and infielder Andy Burns were outrighted off the 40-man roster, as noted in the tweet. With the moves, the roster now stands at 37 players.

Alexander battled through another season of injuries. In 4 seasons with the Dodgers, the reliever has appeared in just 132 games while posting a 3.49 ERA. Considering he was due for another salary bump, the outright makes sense.

Sherfy made 4 appearances out of the bullpen before an elbow injury ended his season in July.

Burns played in just 9 games with LA this season until he was shockingly added back to the roster following the season ending injury to Justin Turner in the postseason. He was hitless in two at-bats in the NLCS.

There is no word yet as to whether any of these players will remain in the organization but chances are low that that happens. Still, each is still under team control. However, the most likely to be released is Alexander who, again, was likely due a raise from his $1 million salary in 2021.
