TAMPA — A driver traveling at a high rate of speed Thursday morning in New Tampa struck and killed a bicyclist, Tampa police said.
The collision occurred at 7:35 a.m. on Lizard’s Tail Road near Park Centre Drive.

The driver was headed north and failed to observe the bicyclist, who was headed south, police said. They collided head-on and the car crashed into a tree.
The bicyclist died at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital. There was no immediate word on his injuries.
