Matt Casey’s (temporary?) replacement has been found, and he at least once had Level 7 clearance.
TVLine can confirm that Chicago Fire has tapped Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Brett Dalton to recur as new interim Lieutenant Jason Pelham. The character makes his debut in this Wednesday’s episode, airing at 9/8c on NBC.
As previously reported, series lead Jesse Spencer — who had played firefighter Matt Casey for 10 seasons — exited the long-running drama during last month’s 200th episode. The special installment found Casey leaving the Windy City to take care of his late friend Andy Darden’s sons in Oregon. His departure left a vacancy on Truck 81, which is now without a leader.
Having passed the lieutenant’s exam, Stella seems to be a natural candidate for the position, but whether she will actually get the job “is going to be a hot topic of conversation through this next batch of episodes — whether they’re going to hold a spot for her while she’s off doing her good work for Girls on Fire,” showrunner Derek Haas told TVLine.
In the meantime, Dalton’s character — who was first spotted by some eagle-eyed fans, in this episodic photo — will join the Firehouse 51 crew.
In addition to his four-season run as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Grant Ward/Hive, Dalton’s previous TV credits include episodes of Blue Bloods, Army Wives, Elementary and Deception, plus voice work on shows such as Robot Chicken and Milo Murphy’s Law. Most recently, he played Captain Vincent on the children’s mystery series Ghostwriter.

I am glad to hear that Jason Pelham is temporary in the Lieutenant spot because I want to see Stella take that spot and make it her own. And to see firehouse 51 have a woman as a Lieutenant calling the shots.
It says (temporary ?) so it’s not a for sure thing. But Stella will probably end up with it eventually. But they have to add some drama to it. I just don’t want another situation like we had with Casey and Dawson constant bickering because of their job conflicts. I don’t want to ever see that again, lol.
I’m pretty sure married couples cannot be in the same fire house working together both as firefighters
Technically married couples aren’t allowed to work together on the same shift and in-house dating also isn’t allowed but Boden turns a blind eye to both of them as long as they don’t hamper or disrupt the work dynamics and if the couples don’t bring their problems to work and vice-versa. Houses I think have their own house rules and regulations so it’s different rules and ways of implementation from one house to another.
With that said, if Boden managed to turn a blind eye to Casey and Dawson working together as a married couple even on different rigs with one on Truck and the other on Ambo 61, what’s to say he would do the same to Kelly and Stella as they also work in different rigs with one on Squad and the other on Truck 81. Plus technically Kelly still outranks Stella in terms of rank seniority even if both are lieutenants. Kelly also outranks Herrmann as well in terms of rank seniority.
tbh I don’t think he will be a bad fit.
I’m really going to miss Casey so I hope this new temporary character is a nice guy. I also hope that Jesse Spencer has a well deserved rest, recharges his batteries, maybe visits family in Australia and then decides he misses Chicago Fire, even if it’s not until next season.🤞
Well, he will be busy enough. His wife is pregnant and seems well into her pregnancy. I assume one reason why he left.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I am confused? Casey was a Captain, why is his replacement a Lieutenant? Where is Stella in real life?
Casey was a LT when the show started and led truck for years under that rank. So Pelham for sure can take up the mantle.
Chicago Fire started with all three companies having lieutenants command them. Casey was a lieutenant and would have continued to be one if he wasn’t meritoriously field promoted to Captain in Season 6. Plus I believe most rig officers are mostly lieutenants in rank unless they get promoted to Captain. Fire officers start off as lieutenants then if they chose to continue to move up the ladder, they get promoted to captain after they take the test for it unless it’s like Casey where special situations cause them to get meritoriously field promoted. Stella is in Boston currently but is moving to Connecticut as she continues to promote her program to the different fire departments in those cities which was arranged with Boden’s help. In real life, Miranda was taken off air due to asking for a break after filming 10×03. She’ll be back in the midseason.
No no no no
Yes Stella Kidd
I think it’s going to be Stella because she’s a lieutenant and Casey went up the ranks to Captain so Stella’s getting it for sure because plus this replacement is a lieutenant so that’s going to end up being Stella as lieutenant
He can be hear for the time being till Stella can come back so she can take her place as a Lieutenant of Truck 81
So happy he’s been cast! Great actor! Great human! Will be watching this year .
He’s good to me. Not Stella cuz Kelly is there and it will be another Casey/Dawson! No!
I am very excited to see Dalton on the show but even more excited that Matt Casey left. I stopped watching the show a few years ago cuz I could not watch Casey in THIS roll anymore. I love Casey in general but not in this roll.
As long as he’s temporary and Stella comes back ASAP and takes over leadership of truck 81, all is good. Miss seeing Stellaride together ❤
Yes as long he’s temporarily and Stella comes back to claim what is hers and takes over leading truck 81 it will be all good .
Plus we miss see Stellaride together on our television it can’t happen fast enough for me.
I am so excited that there’s a show I can watch Brett Dalton on !
I’ve never watched Chicago fire but definitely will now !! We loved him ( bad boy and all) on Agents of Shield
Just hope he’s not an antagonistic addition, where he comes in with orders to change things drastically.
Absolutely! I hope it lasts for him.
Sexy Hallmark leading men are always ok! 😋
I don’t remember him in Hallmark movies but I haven’t been watching for a while. I remember him from Agents of Shield.
Glad to see S.H.I.E.D. vet coming on board at FIRE but still miss Casey!!!
I look for Severide to stay with Fire Investigation because it allows show runners to feature him often to pick up the slack from Casey’s departure. They will use the flirting with his partner to stir up the Stella fans but nothing is likely to occur. However the horny Brett will soon be all over Lt. Pelham and probably Gallo too which naturally will cause trouble on the ambo w/Violet.
He plays a character who seems nice, but then it turns out he not. :)
I hope he eventually becomes a regular I don’t want Stella to be in charge.
You’re going to be truly disappointed when Stella come back to take her spot as Lieutenant of Truck 81.
Plus Stella is going to be the first woman to be a Lieutenant in firehouse 51 so excited about that.
I agree….I never liked Stella, so I’m okay with this guy coming on board. Flaky Brett will be all over him soon enough, when things with Casey don’t work out.
As long as he is temporary! I want Casey back!
Hello Chi Town , Chicago fans! I have been watching all of the Chicago shows since they started. We never want to see our favorites leave but it’s more like real life…people come and go, coworkers don’t always stay. I hope that Jason stays on if not in the capacity as lieutenant then in some other position. He is so nice to look at!
Go Stella!!!
Besides that, who is the lady that played the church secretary in episode 9? She reminds me of a lady that played on an episode on Chicago P.D. I would have to do some research to figure out which episode. Thanks
Chicago fire had to many people leave if another one leaves the actor dalton iam not watching the show I don’t care for stela the others ok and she is not a good much for severide and he is such a good looking guy
Love Brett Dalton please bring him back to Chicago fire
