By God, is that Philip Rivers' music in New Orleans?! Not quite yet.

The retired quarterback, who is currently coaching high school football in Alabama in his first year post-NFL, did not rule out coming out of retirement to join the New Orleans Saints for the remainder of the 2021 season.

According to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, Rivers said he has not heard from the Saints yet, but “would listen.”

The Saints (5-2) lost QB Jameis Winston to a season-ending knee injury in Week 8. Journeyman Trevor Siemian helped steer them to victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following Winston's injury. Swiss-army knife Taysom Hill remains an option, too, though he's missed the past two games with a concussion. Rookie Ian Book is also on the roster.

Head coach Sean Payton said the Saints would likely not add a QB, such as free agent Cam Newton, as it would be too challenging for him to learn the system this late in the season.

New Orleans faces the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9.

Rivers played his final season with the Indianapolis Colts in 2020 after 16 years under center for the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. At age 39, Rivers led the Colts to an 11-5 record and threw 24 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He posted a completion percentage of 68.0, tallied 4,169 yards, and had QB rating of 97.0.

Of course, there's another recently retired quarterback who the Saints may want to call first.
