Elections are taking place in some states on Tuesday, but not in Illinois.

Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray said Monday his election office has been receiving phone calls and social media inquiries about who's on the ballot Tuesday.

"The public should know that Illinois does not have a November fall election this year," he said, adding in a news release that 2021 is an "off-year" for elections in Illinois.

Moreover, the traditional Illinois March primary election for the 2022 election cycle has been moved to June 28, 2022, to accommodate the late release of 2020 U.S. Census data and the delayed decisions on reapportionment of Illinois election maps, Gray said.

Established party candidates for office can begin circulating petitions in mid-January, with petition filing scheduled for March 7-14, according to Matt Dietrich, spokesman for the Illinois Board of Elections.

Early voting and voting by mail begin in mid-May, Gray said.
