Law & Order Revival Casts Burn Notice‘s Jeffrey Donovan in Season 21
Chalk up one for order: Burn Notice alum Jeffrey Donovan has been cast as a cop in NBC‘s upcoming revival of its original Law & Order series.
Donovan will play a New York Police Department detective, TVLine has learned. No other details about the character, including the character’s name, are available.
In September, the Peacock net announced that it was bringing back Dick Wolf’s flagship procedural and that the latest iteration would continue from where the series left off when it was cancelled. Law & Order was axed abruptly in 2010 at the end of its 20th season.
It’s not yet clear how many original cast members will return for the continuation; in September, sources confirmed to TVLine that preliminary talks were in the works with some of the franchise’s veteran players. At the time of its cancellation, Law & Order‘s cast included Anthony Anderson, Jeremy Sisto, S. Epatha Merkerson, Alana de la Garza, Sam Waterston and Linus Roache.
In addition to playing Burn Notice‘s Michael Westen, Donovan’s TV credits include Fargo, Crossing Jordan, Shut Eye and Touching Evil. He also guest-starred twice on Law & Order back in the day: First in 1995 as video-game reviewer Eddie Nicodos, and then in 2007 as religious zealot Jacob Reese.

I loved Burn Notice and I’m a fan of Jeffrey Donovan and loved him in Fargo. I wasn’t really interested in the reboot of L&O but now I am very interested in seeing Jeffrey Donovan in the show.
I wasn’t very interested in the revival, but this might change my mind.

Why do they keep saying this this is season 21. This is the start of a new series. I guess Dick Wolf wants to be ahead of Gunsmoke real bad. If that’s the case why wasn’t The 60’s Dragnet season 9.
Probably because it’s going to be a pure continuation of the series, the way those last 2 seasons of X-Files were. And Wolf already has the 23rd season of SVU airing currently with the 24th on tap, so I don’t think he’s too concerned with beating Gunsmoke at this point.
Except the Simpsons topped Gunsmoke a couple years ago and still going. But I think he’ll be a great addition, even though I will always see him as Michael Weston.
Right now scuttlebutt has Anthony Anderson and Sam Waterston coming back. I’m hopeful for Linus Roache.

I wo uh don’t hold my breath waiting for returning actors. One is on Chicago Med playing the hospital administor. Disco is on FBI, playing a great part.
Bringing Donovan in is a great idea. I might have preferred seeing him on other well established shows, but who knows how the reboot will do.

I love Donovan. I watched every episode of Burn Notice and was truly upset when it ended. He is an excellent actor with a magnetic appeal. I can’t wait for it to get started! Hurry up!!!
