Among the handful of semi-shocking results from another wild NFL Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts' 34-31 defeat at the hands of the Tennessee Titans probably didn't rank as most shocking. However, considering the Colts closed as a three-point favorite and were basically playing for their entire season, it did come as a bit of a surprise to see them squander one at home after jumping out to a 14-0 lead.
One man who was definitely not surprised in the least was former New England Patriots linebacker turned ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi, who broke the game down on Sunday NFL Countdown. With a number of prognosticators pumping up the Colts and Wentz, Bruschi went the other way, saying the game would be decided by "a handful of plays where we shake our heads and say 'what is Carson Wentz doing?'"
Bruschi added "I understand people are saying he's [Wentz] playing better, but from a defensive perspective, we're in our team meeting saying 'this guy is going to give us the ball somehow, some way, he is going to do something that is absolutely stupid.'"
Bruschi's words proved to be prophetic. With 1:32 remaining in a 24-24 game, Wentz inexplicably threw one up for grabs (left-handed, mind you) from his own end zone that was intercepted and returned one yard for a touchdown. To his credit, he led the offense down to tie the game and force overtime immediately after. Unfortunately, that good moment was spoiled by another backbreaking interception, this one eventually leading to a game-winning Titans field goal. If we're going to Freezing Cold Takes everyone for their bad opinions, we should reward people for their good opinions, too. This ended up being an A+ take from Tedy, who would know a thing or two about bad quarterbacks having faced the Jets, Bills and Dolphins his entire career.
Good news for the Colts - next up is the Jets on Thursday night followed by the 1-6 Jaguars, so they should have no problem getting back to .500.
