Angel Collinson, one of the most prolific big mountain skiers of her generation (and beyond!), announced on her Instagram page last week that she will be moving on from her role as a professional skier. Collinson recently returned from a trans-Atlantic sailing trip with her partner Pete Willauer.

The first woman to be nominated for and win Best Line at the Powder Awards in 2016, Collinson, 31, has collected numerous accolades from the ski industry since she transitioned from ski racing to big mountain competitions and filming. In 2010, her first year on the Freeskiing World Tour, she won the overall title only to come back and repeat the win in 2011.

The Snowbird, Utah, native started filming with Teton Gravity Research in 2013 where she earned scored the opening scene of “Almost Ablaze”—a first for a female skier and was recognized by ESPN as one of the Top 50 Females in Action Sports in 2014. From there, her film parts, along with magazine covers and spreads, have been numerous, making regular appearances in the annual TGR and MSP productions, all the while maintaining the calm, authentic, and deeply thoughtful demeanor that has brought as much value to the sport as her hard-charging approach to skiing.

Fans, teammates, and fellow skiers continue their outpouring of support and gratitude for Collinson since her announcement. SKI looks forward to speaking with her in the coming days about her decision and what comes next.

Onward and upward, Angel. We’re rooting for you.
