  • CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer unveiled his location on Monday for covering the COP26 climate summit.
  • Although the summit is in Glasgow, Scotland, Blitzer was in Edinburgh, some 40 miles away.
  • Other journalists covering the summit ribbed Blitzer and CNN for the unusual choice.

Veteran CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer on Monday unveiled CNN's set for covering the COP26 climate change in Edinburgh, Scotland — despite the summit taking place in a different city.

"I'm now reporting from Edinburgh in Scotland where 20,000 world leaders and delegates have gathered for the COP26 Climate Summit," Blitzer tweeted Monday morning along with a picture of him in a temporary studio with Edinburgh Castle in the background.

The COP26 summit of world leaders is actually taking place in Glasgow, Scotland's biggest city, which is some 38 miles from Edinburgh and more than an hour's drive.

Journalists in the UK were bemused by the post and sent messages mocking Blitzer.

US President Joe Biden had flown in along with members of the White House Press Corps to Edinburgh on Sunday, from where he traveled to Glasgow for the summit there.

Blitzer later tweeted again about his coverage, this time specifying that the summit was in Glasgow. The post pointed out that Edinburgh was where Biden landed.

Insider contacted CNN for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.

Blitzer had previously been in Rome for the G20 Summit of world leaders, which concluded Sunday.
