Mark Dantonio is a guy who knows a lot about beating Michigan, and he had to love what he saw out of Mel Tucker and the Spartans Saturday afternoon.

Dantonio abruptly retired as head coach of the Spartans following the 2019 season but not before a decorated career. He finished with a school-record 114 wins at Michigan State, including an impressive 8-5 mark against the team from Ann Arbor.

In fact, with Tucker starting 2-0 against the Wolverines, Michigan State is now 10-5 in the last 15 meetings for the Paul Bunyan Trophy. That stretch goes back to 2007, Dantonio’s first season leading Michigan State.

The most recent episode of the game was particularly memorable with the Spartans erasing a 16-point deficit in the second half. They rattled off a 23-3 streak to finish the game and move to 8-0.

After the big win, Dantonio – who was on hand for the game – stood back out of the spotlight but soaked in the moment as the Spartans rejoiced. Check it out:
