Man jailed on murder charge accused in fatal campus shooting

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man already jailed on a murder charge is facing another murder charge in connection with the shooting deaths of two men on a college campus last month, police said.

Police said Dezmond Armond Harper, 19, was indicted by a Durham County grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder Monday, The Herald-Sun of Durham reported Wednesday.

On Sept. 20, police investigating a reports of a shooting in the parking lot found Shamori Brown and Tavis Rhodes had been shot. Both were taken to a hospital, where they died.

The shooting took place during a home football game at N.C. Central University, and it prompted police to lock down the nearby stadium.

Harper was in the Wake County jail after he was charged on Sept. 22, with murder in a shooting death at a Raleigh apartment complex.
