Man accused of killing Jeanica Julce in Boston Harbor boat crash was driving speedboat named ‘Make it Go Away’ when it hit ‘distinctively marked’ navigational aid

The man who owned and was driving a speedboat that crashed and killed 27-year-old Jeanica Julce was indicted Tuesday.

Ryan Denver, 38, was indicted with involuntary manslaughter, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.

On July 17, Denver was driving the Pursuit DC 365 speedboat he owned, which he named “Make it Go Away,” the district attorney’s office said. At about 2:50 a.m., the 37-foot-long 17,000-pound vessel struck “Daymarker 5, a large distinctively marked fixed navigational aid, head-on” in Boston Harbor.

It was hit “with such destructive force that the boat sank, sending all eight individuals on board – including Ms. Julce and Mr. Denver – into the harbor,” the press release stated.

Several people were rescued around 3 a.m. and five people were transported by ambulance to area hospitals. Julce, however, was still missing.

“First responders were not able to locate Ms. Julce during their rescue operation. Her body was finally recovered at approximately 10 a.m. later that same day. She was pronounced deceased,” the DA said in a statement.

Hundreds gathered this summer at Holy Bible Baptist Church in Somerville to remember the 27-year-old with her father, Wilfrid Julce, reminding people that “life is very fragile.” The Boston Globe reported.

“Jeanica was a vibrant young woman with a beautiful life ahead of her. She deserved better than to lose everything because of another individual’s recklessness. That her life ended in this manner is heartbreaking,” said District Attorney Rachael Rollins said. “My office is here to support her loved ones and the surviving victims of this crash to ensure they receive the support and resources they deserve.”

Denver is expected to be arraigned Nov. 19.
