UPDATE: The Halloween Celebration in Herkimer will be moved to Herkimer County Community College due to a rainy weather forecast.

The Business and Professional Association of Herkimer (BPA) will host its sixth annual Halloween Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, starting with a costume parade. Costumed participants are asked to line up at 4:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the courthouse on North Main Street.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the Herkimer Fire Department will lead the parade down North Main Street to Park Avenue and into Myers Park.

Activities in the park will run from 5 to 7 p.m. and include Halloween music, provided by Sound Designs DJ Service and dancing by the Happy Haggs at 6 p.m. with all invited to join in. There will also be a free photo booth with photos uploaded to the association's Facebook page and the website HerkimerBPA.com

There will be costumed kids on Main Street and in Myers Park Saturday evening as the Business and Professional Association of Herkimer sponsors its annual Halloween event.

Doughnuts and cider will be available for a donation of 25 cents each. Donations will be used toward the renovation of the First Baptist Church as the BPA Community Center in the village.

Trick or treat stations sponsored by local businesses and organizations will be set up in the park.

One station will offer more than just candy.

Members of the Herkimer High School Student Council along with seniors from Laura Scalise’s Government class will be on hand to pass out treats and Never Again fire safety flyers as a community service project. In addition to fire safety tips, the flyers offer information on how to secure smoke detectors for families who lack them.

The Never Again flyers are part of the Herkimer County Hunger Coalition and Greater Herkimer Lions Club's Never Again Project in honor of the six McCleod children from Little Falls who died in a house fire on Dec. 22, 1991.

“We’re also honoring the DeCarlis family,” said Scalise. Three young brothers, Jackson, Richard and Michael DeCarlis, ages 1, 6 and 7, respectively, died January 2019 in an early morning fire in Herkimer that was caused by an electrical problem.

“We wanted to keep their legacy alive,” Scalise added.

The activities downtown aren’t the only show in town Saturday night. The Herkimer Originals, Herkimer’s new American Basketball Association team, will play their home opener in the Herkimer County Community College gymnasium with a Halloween party planned as part of the festivities. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and there will be games, prizes, a costume contest, free candy and more. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. Kids 12 and younger will be admitted free with a costume.

Trick or treat hours in the village are from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31.

The Happy Haggs are scheduled to perform during Saturday's Halloween event at Myers Park in Herkimer.

Frankfort

In the town of Frankfort area, the Frankfort Center Fire Department will host a Trunk and Treat event from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the fire station, located at 799 Center Road.
