ORLANDO, Fla. — Veteran actor John Amos, known for his roles in “Roots,” “Die Hard 2″ and “Coming 2 America,” will be honored this week at the 16th Annual Orlando Film Festival.

Amos will be presented with the Cinematic Icon Award for his career spanning 50 years, including his latest film “Because of Charley,” which was shot in Central Florida during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Because of Charley” will screen on Sunday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. Amos will attend the Tuesday screening and participate in an audience Q&A after the screening.

“I’m grateful to the Orlando Film Festival for the acknowledgement and because it happened in conjunction with Because of Charley,” Amos said in a news release. “I’ve had a number of good films throughout the course of my career, but this one has something to say that all of us can learn from. It’s almost like it was written for these very times - about a family at the height of adversity, who pull together to survive and to overcome what differences they thought they had.”

Other award recipients over the years include Olympia Dukakis, Malcolm McDowell, Milos Forman and Ed Asner.

The Orlando Film Festival runs from Thursday through Nov. 4. Click here for tickets and more information.
