Man killed woman with hammer at high-end bicycle distributor, prosecutor says

A man is accused of using a hammer to kill a woman who was found dead Wednesday morning at a high-end bicycle distributor in Bergen County, authorities said.

Christian V. Giron, 24, was charged with murder, weapon possession and hindering his own apprehension in the slaying of 43-year-old Jeanette A. Willem, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responded to a 911 call at the Northvale headquarters of Jamis Bikes on Ludlow Avenue around 8:15 a.m., according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. At the scene, officers found Willem dead from a head wound, the prosecutor added.

“An investigation conducted by detectives from the Northvale Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit revealed that [Giron] murdered [Willem] with a hammer,” Musella said in a statement.

“Responding officers searched the building to make sure there was no ongoing threat to the community,” Musella said.

The prosecutor’s office listed Giron as a warehouse worker, however, it was unclear if he was employed at the bike company. The Harrington Park resident was being held at the county jail after being arrested earlier, according to authorities. Investigators have not commented on a possible motive for the killing.

Willem was an employee at the company, Bicycle Retailer reported, citing a statement from Jamis Bikes.

“Jamis Bikes is a small and tight-knit group and Jeanette has been a dedicated member of our team for 20 years. We are devastated,” the company said, according to the publication.

Representatives for Jamis Bikes could not be immediately reached to comment.

The killing was the second homicide in Bergen County since Sunday, when authorities said a man fatally stabbed a 51-year-old woman in Washington Township.
