The Friday night lights will be off for a while in the Monroe–Woodbury Central School District after a parent was arrested during a game.
Police say 41-year-old Monroe father Michael Ayala assaulted an administrator while the staffer was breaking up a fight between students last week.
A district letter sent home to parents explained home games will now be held on Saturday afternoon and says it was a difficult decision, "necessary to send a clear message that disrespectful, disruptive and violent behavior will not be tolerated."
The district says it will reevaluate the decision based on future student conduct at upcoming school events. As for the parent allegedly involved, he faces an assault charge and was released on an appearance ticket.
