(WFXR) – Two southwest Virginia school districts have announced changes to the academic calendar.

For Halifax County Public Schools, Wednesday, Nov. 10 will be a holiday for students and a full workday for teachers. This replaces an earlier scheduled early release day.

The district says that parent-teacher conferences scheduled for elementary schools will continue from 1:30 to 6 p.m.

“The purpose for this additional full work day is for teachers to have adequate planning time to address the early year challenges of a lack of substitute teachers and the need for additional planning to continue to create specialized lesson plans for students in quarantine.”

In Craig County, school officials say that, in order to allow for additional planning for teachers, schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 10
  • Wednesday, Nov. 17
  • Wednesday, Dec. 1
  • Wednesday, Dec. 8

They say that this will not affect the Governor’s School schedule.
