CHURCHILL, Pa. — All afternoon activities were canceled as police and school officials looked into a social media posting in which a student threatened to bring a gun to Woodland Hills High School. District leaders later said students would be learning remotely the rest of the week.

A letter sent out from the principal, assistant principals and dean of students said a student threatened to bring the gun to school during comments made on an Instagram Live video. Churchill police were notified and the district has been in communication with investigators throughout the day Wednesday.

The student who hosted the broadcast on Instagram Live and the student who allegedly made the threat were not in school Wednesday, officials said. Any rumors of a weapon found on school property were investigated and found to not be credible.

A virtual community meeting was scheduled for Wednesday evening for district officials to talk about recent incidents at the high school and answer questions from parents and community members.

District leaders said they were monitoring the investigation and taking “every step necessary to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”

Late Wednesday, district leaders said students would move to remote learning for the rest of the week.

All of this follows a series of violent fights at the high school involving as many as 30 students last week. The incidents led officials to move to fully-remote instruction for several days during an investigation.
