'I'm frightened!': Wonder Woman vet Lynda Carter, 70, 'does not know who she is' without husband Robert Altman after he died suddenly this year

Lynda Carter is 'frightened' about life without her late husband Robert Altman.

The Wonder Woman actress was left devastated when Robert – her husband of 37 years – died of cancer in February, and has expressed her fears of living without her partner. 

'The next part of my life is I want to learn who I am. It's totally frightening. I don't know who I am without Robert,' she told People.

The 70-year-old star admitted she's still trying to come to terms with her husband's death.

She said: 'It still gets me. I just can't believe I've lost him.' Lynda and Robert met in 1982 – when the actress in the process of divorcing her first husband, Ron Samuels – and the Hollywood star has confessed that their romance came when she was least expecting it.

She recalled: 'I was not prepared to meet anyone new. I was going to do it on my own.'

Lynda - who played Wonder Woman in the TV series that ran between 1975 and 1979 - conceded that their relationship faced a series of challenges over the years.

However, they always shared a strong sense of 'love' and 'support'.

She said: 'We'd been through ups and downs and ins and outs, and I'd never in my life felt the love and the support and the thrill of having a guy like this.'

Lynda has actually turned to music to help her cope with Robert's passing.

And the actress has even announced plans to release the song Human and Divine, a celebration of the couple's love, later this month.

Lynda explained: 'It was a real romance. I was really trying to define love and loss and make sure it was about the human-ness of love.'

Carter penned a heartfelt tribute to her late husband in February on what would have been his 74th birthday. 

In her Instagram post she shared a snap of herself gazing lovingly at Altman as they held hands.

'Today brings back all the wonderful memories of our life together,' she captioned the snap of them standing in front of a staircase together with red poinsettias behind them.

She continued: 'I didn’t think it was possible to miss you more than I already do, but I feel your presence in my heart.' 

'Thinking of you on your birthday, my love ❤️,' she wrote of her husband of 37 years.  

Carter first broke her silence on Altman's passing, at age 73, one week after he died on February 3, over Instagram. 

'We shared the passion I hope everyone is lucky enough to experience in their lifetime. We protected each other and were each other’s champions always,' said the Wonder Woman: 1984 star as she shared a black and white photo of the two.

Robert died in Baltimore earlier in February, according to the Washington Post, which added the cause of death was complications from a medical procedure. 

Lynda and Robert wed in 1984 and welcomed two children together: Jessica, 27, and James, 33.

Her note began, 'One week ago, my beloved husband Robert A. Altman passed away. 'Robert is the love of my life and he always will be,' she added. She then said that their 37 years of marriage was 'an extraordinary gift.'

The lounge singer added: 'We shared the passion I hope everyone is lucky enough to experience in their lifetime. We protected each other and were each other’s champions always.' 

Carter then talked about their kids. 

'We have always been grateful for the two beautiful lives we created together: our children, Jessica and James.

'They are the lights of my life, and were the greatest joy of Robert’s. I see so much of Robert in them, and I know he lives on through them,' she added. 

'Jessica, James, and I want to say thank you. We especially love hearing about the times you met Robert at concerts or through his work in the gaming world. He loved meeting you and hearing your stories.'

And she shared a special note for her late husband who was born in 1947: 'You are the most honorable person that I have ever had the privilege to know. And I got to be your wife and the mother of your children. Thank you for giving me all the love in my life.'

Lynda finished with, 'Nothing could prepare our family for this moment, but we will do our best to follow our dreams and honor the legacy you’ve left behind. I will love you always and forever.'  

Son James said of his dad, 'He was fiercely loyal to his friends, and had a way of connecting with people instantly. Inspiring them, getting the best out of them, and often teaching them with his seemingly endless wisdom.'

Altman worked as a lawyer in Washington, DC. First he was employed at Clifford & Warnke and then later he opened his own firm. He was also involved in a scandal surrounding the Bank of Credit and Commerce International. 

He then changed careers and became the co-founder of video game company ZeniMax Media in 1986. The company published The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

Publisher Bethesda Softworks shared a statement about Robert's passing last week on Twitter. 'He was a true visionary, friend, and believer in the spirit of people and the power of what they could accomplish together,' the statement read.

'He was an extraordinary leaders, and an even better human being.' 

In 2009, ZeniMax acquired id Software. And in 2020, Microsoft acquired ZeniMax in a deal worth $7.5 billion.
