Highway 1 fully reopen after rockslide cleared near Monterey and San Luis Obispo County
CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION) UPDATE Nov. 1 2:14 p.m. Highway 1 is fully open without interruption from Monterey/Carmel area to Cambria/Morro Bay along the Big Sur Coast.
Crews dislodged an undermined rock Friday afternoon and worked through Saturday to clear over 20 truckloads of dirt and rocks. Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.
UPDATE Oct. 28, 2021 6 p.m. Maintenence and geotechnical teams are working on removing an undermined rock outcrop above the roadway. They're working on both sides of the road and Caltran said Highway 1 is not expected to reopen before Nov. 3.

Highway 1 is fully closed in both directions from north Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County to Gorda in Monterey County, according to Caltrans.
Caltrans had closed Highway 1 from Ragged Point in San Luis Obispo County to Fullers Point in Monterey County due to a rockslide earlier on Wednesday. They reopened Highway 1 in both directions, north of Gorda in Monterey County.
In the addition to the rockfall, Caltrans said they are concerned over the unsupported rock on the slopes immediately above the highway. Crews will be working during daylight hours, 7-days a week to reopen the highway. Caltrans said the highway could be closed to up to a week.
