Three NY Jets players designated to return to practice for Bengals week

New York Jets have reinforcements on the way

The New York Jets announced that three players have been designated to return to practice ahead of their Week 8 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

LB Jarrad Davis, P Braden Mann and DE Kyle Phillips have been designated to return to practice.

Linebacker Jarrad Davis suffered an ankle injury against the Packers in Week 2 of the preseason and has since been on injured reserve. He remains on IR but could be activated this week to make his season debut against the Bengals this Sunday.

In a video released by the Jets, Marcus Maye looked happy to see Davis back (as well as C.J. Mosley, who was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice after missing Week 7 with a hamstring injury).

Punter Braden Mann is back on the field after missing the previous five games with a left knee injury sustained in the season opener against Carolina. Like Davis, Mann remains on injured reserve.

Veteran punter Thomas Morstead has filled in admirably for Mann during his absence. Morstead remains on the roster as of Wednesday, Oct. 27, but the Jets will have to make a decision on his future once Mann returns.

Defensive end Kyle Phillips has spent the past year recovering from an ankle injury sustained in October 2020. He began the 2021 season on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list.

A third-year man out of Tennessee, Phillips provided the Jets with tremendous production against the run as an undrafted rookie in 2019. He showcased more of the same run-game impact in 2020 before his season was cut short after only seven games.

Currently ranked as the league’s 27th-best run defense according to DVOA, the Jets could certainly use Phillips’ help in that phase.
