CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have arrested and charged eight people for their alleged involvement in a kidnapping and shooting Tuesday morning in Caldwell County.

According to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called just before 9 a.m. to the emergency room at Caldwell Memorial Hospital after a man who had been shot was dropped off.

The shooting victim was flown to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem and officials said he was in stable condition.

The 24-year-old victim had been shot twice in his torso, investigators said. He was at the hospital with his 35-year-old girlfriend and told deputies that earlier in the morning the couple was at a friend’s home when a group of people assaulted the two of them and then tied them up and blindfolded them.

The man who was shot told detectives that the group then put him and his girlfriend into a vehicle and drove them to a spot where the two were placed on the ground. He said several shots were fired at him and his girlfriend and that he was hit, but she was not.

Investigators said the man’s girlfriend corroborated his account and said that after the shooting, the group left and she walked to a nearby road and flagged down a car that brought them both to the hospital.

Investigators determined that the couple were tied up and blindfolded at a home on Joplin Road in Hudson and identified an abandoned property on Hood’s Creek Road as the spot where the shooting took place.

Deputies then served a search warrant at the Joplin Road home and arrested eight people inside. Investigators determined that all eight acted together in the kidnappings and assaults.

“We intend to charge everyone involved in cases that are related to guns, drugs, violence, and kidnapping,” said Sheriff Alan C. Jones. “We take a firm stance against this type of behavior.”

The investigation into this case remains active and additional charges are expected.
