LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock Police said one person was in custody after an hours-long SWAT standoff Wednesday just east of Texas Tech University campus.
According to LPD, the person was taken into custody around 6:00 p.m.
LPD said police initially responded about 10:30 a.m. for a suicidal person. Officers made contact with this person and then negotiators and SWAT were added to the response.
LPD said, “It is policy for SWAT to respond with negotiators.”
During the situation, a message from Texas Tech said: Currently there is a law enforcement operation taking place in the 2400 block of Glenna Goodacre Blvd. Please avoid the area. There is no threat to the TTU campus. Updates will follow as necessary.
Police said, “This is considered an isolated incident, and we do not believe there is a public safety threat at this time.”
