A major bombshell dropped in the hockey world yesterday, as reports of an investigation done on the Chicago Blackhawks revealed a former player was sexually assaulted by the team's video coach, Brad Aldrich, and many above him in the organization failed to report it to authorities.
As a result of this, Blackhawks general manager (GM) Stan Bowman was relieved of his duties, and was also removed as the GM for Team USA for the upcoming Winter Olympics. One other very notable figure who was reportedly aware of the situation at the time but didn't report it was now Florida Panthers head coach Joel Quenneville. Despite this investigation claiming he knew about the situation but wanted to keep it quiet so it wasn't a distraction, Quenneville claimed this summer he wasn't aware of the allegations until they came out earlier this year. Speaking with media on Wednesday morning, he doubled down on that stance.
«I do but I can't comment,» Quenneville said when asked if he still stands by his statement earlier this summer claiming he was unaware of the situation.
Quenneville also mentioned that he has a meeting with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman tomorrow to discuss the entire situation. It isn't known exactly what will come of that, but with public pressure mounting, the Panthers are under serious pressure to relieve him of his duties.
