The Rev. Henry Thomas “H.T.” James, 95, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021.

He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Ellijay, to the late Henry Thomas and Florida Angeline (Ledford) James.

He was a Baptist minister and a member of Flat Branch Baptist Church. He was a lifelong farmer, worked many years for Davenport Hosiery Mills, was a warden with the Gilmer County Corrections Department and was a member of the U.S. Army and Army reserve.

He is preceded in death by wife, Vinnie Ruth Gooch; sons, Joseph Henry James, Billy Barnard and Bobby Barnard; grandson, Darrell Bryant; and five siblings, Jackie, Edna Norton, Bessie Woodard, Dessie Mae Norton and infant brother.

He is survived by daughters, Deborah James and Ann Barnard; grandchildren, Joseph Thomas James, Leslie Keith, Alison Barnard and Lauren Smith Schosger; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Harper; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friend, Carol Willingham.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Griggs, the Rev. Tony Withrow, the Rev. Roy Scott, the Rev. Franklin Harper and the Rev. Eddie Kerr officiating.

Pallbearers were Arnold Banks, Eddie Brooks, Nathan Cheek, Jason Davis, Jeremy Ledford, Wayne Ledford, Scott McCoy, Harold Norton, Luke Pendley and Eddie Woodard.

Interment was in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all the wonderful friends, caregivers and health care providers who gave loving care and support to Mr. James, especially during recent illnesses.
