A 32-year-old Seymour woman faces a preliminary Level 1 felony charge of attempted murder related to an incident at a home on the city’s west side Monday evening, police report.

Laura McFall also was charged with strangulation and domestic battery and was being held without bond at the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on Tuesday pending her initial hearing in Jackson Circuit Court.

The incident that led to McFall’s arrest started when Seymour officers were called to a home in the 500 block of Manor Drive to investigate a report of domestic battery at 9:14 p.m.

When they arrived at the home, police spoke with a 68-year-old man who told police he had been in the living room when McFall came in and placed some type of ribbon around his neck, Lt. C.J. Foster said.

Foster said the man told police he was able to get away from McFall and she went to her room, then returned with a pillow, placed it over his face and pushed as hard as she could.

“She then retreated to her bedroom and locked the door,” Foster said.

He said police had been called to the home several times in the past for domestic disturbances.

When officers arrived, they obtained a key for McFall’s room, entered it and arrested her. She was booked into the jail at 10:22 p.m. Monday.

Attempted murder carries a sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison and a $10,000 fine upon conviction.
