Bergen County residents brace for potential flooding as Saddle River comes to crest
An October nor’easter brought heavy rain to most areas of New Jersey, producing some flooding conditions around the state.

Residents in Bergen County say that they are bracing for potential flooding as the Saddle River comes to crest. It is a community that was badly impacted by the flooding from Ida.
Lodi resident Ruben Cruz says that flooding from Ida came through the fence and into his home. He says that Tuesday’s rain does not compare to Ida, but he admits he is still a bit worried.
The river was creeping close to the Lodi Boys and Girls Club by Tuesday night. Water from the storm even slowed traffic during rush hour.
About 15 miles north in the town of Saddle River, residents said that the Saddle River doesn’t normally look so fierce. Roads were closed in the area, and drivers were sometimes forced to turn around instead of driving through flooded streets.
Over in Cresskill, residents were also concerned as water from Ida caused flooding at the middle and high schools.
The Ridgewood School District was forced to spend $150,000 to repair three fields flooded by Ida. More flooding came Tuesday from the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook.
The flood warning for the Saddle River is in effect until Wednesday morning.
