Both Chelsea and Southampton have some selection issues ahead of their fourth-round Carabao Cup tie on Tuesday evening.

Key Chelsea men Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner remain unavailable due to injury, though N’Golo Kante, who missed the Blues’ win against Norwich City last weekend, is likely to feature.

“The [Norwich] game was too early. He did the full training on Friday and after training, he said he feels his muscles a bit tight,” Thomas Tuchel said of Kante.

“He went to the physios for massages and for some treatment and he actually wanted to wait until Saturday in the morning to take the decision.

“I said no, it is such an early [kick-off time] game tomorrow, the possibility that it will change is not so high.

“I said take your time and it was simply one day too early. If the match would have been on Sunday he would have played, so he is fully available for Tuesday and for Newcastle [on Saturday].”

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse will serve the last of his three-game suspension today. He got that ban due to the red card he picked up against Chelsea earlier in October.

Mohamed Elyounoussi is unlikely to feature for Saints as he underwent a minor surgery on his hand on Monday.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl expects the Norway international to be available for this weekend’s Premier League tie at Watford.

“He [Elyounoussi] will have his operation on Monday,” Hasenhuttl said a few days ago. “He needs to [recover from the injury].

“He will miss the Chelsea game, but this is normal. He needs to have two or three days’ rest before he can train again.”

The in-form Armando Broja is also unavailable for Southampton. As he is on loan from Chelsea, he is ineligible to play against his parent club.
