New York Giants star Jabrill Peppers out for season with torn ACL

The New York Giants will be without starting safety Jabrill Peppers for the remainder of the 2021 NFL season, the team announced.

Per New York’s official website, the former Michigan star suffered a ruptured ACL and high-ankle sprain during last week’s win over the Carolina Panthers and has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

“The Giants today placed safety Jabrill Peppers on injured reserve with two injuries to his right leg – a rupture to the ACL in his knee and a high ankle sprain. He was hurt in the third quarter of the Giants’ 25-3 victory Sunday against the Carolina Panthers,” the Giants announced.

A first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns back in 2017, Peppers was traded to New York in the Odell Beckham Jr. blockbuster ahead of the 2019 season. Over the course of his first two seasons in Jersey, the athletic safety started 25 games while recording 167 tackles, 16 passes defended, four forced fumbles and two interceptions.

For Jabrill Peppers, this comes at a horrible time in his career. Not that there’s any good time to suffer such a serious injury. The veteran safety is set to hit free agency next March and now likely won’t be able to capitalize on a long-term deal.

Peppers, 26, started all six games this season prior to going down to injury — recording 30 tackles, one sack and a pass defended.
