Squid Game Creator Confirms Season 2 is in Talks, Reveals When Production Will Begin

There is little doubt that people are already expecting Squid Game Season 2. But is Netflix actually renewing the series for a second season? Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has just confirmed that he has been discussing the sequel. However, fans shouldn't expect anything soon.

Hwang recently spoke to The Guardian about the show he created and he had admitted that a follow-up is already in discussion.

"Of course there is talk," Hwang said. "That's inevitable because it's been such a success."

Hwang then pointed out that although it is being discussed, he has not yet finalized what would happen in Squid Game Season 2. In addition to that, he is eyeing a different project that could delay the second season.

"I am considering it. I have a very high-level picture in my mind, but I'm not going to work on it straight away. There's a film I really want to make," Hwang said.

It might seem a second season will not be released next year. However, Hwang then added that he might prioritize Squid Game.

"I'm thinking about which to do first. I'm going to talk to Netflix," he said.

It might be disappointing for fans to know that Squid Game Season 2 isn't happening immediately. However, it is important to remember that it took a long time before the show was ultimately released on Netflix. Hwang had confirmed that he had tried to sell the series for several years before the streaming service decided to go with it.

The long wait would also mean that Hwang can truly take his time and make sure that the second season of Squid Game will live up to its predecessor. Either way, we're hoping to get an update soon.

Squid Game is currently streaming on Netflix. The series has not yet been confirmed for a second season. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
