The Indianapolis Colts seemed left for dead several times since August.

First it was Carson Wentz needing foot surgery.

But once he recovered from that, the story was about his two sprained ankles.

The Colts got off to a 1-4 start and seemed doomed.

Alas, Wentz has shown progression each week and the Colts are now 3-4 after pulling off a primetime victory in nasty weather against the San Francisco 49ers.

Wentz did fantastic given the conditions and one stat about his recent run illustrates why the Colts are happy to have him.

Any stat that includes Peyton Manning as a leader is usually a good sign.

Wentz joins the Colts legend now that he has two touchdowns and no interceptions in four consecutive games.

A Much-Needed Turnaround

The Colts needed Wentz to step up and he has done just that.

The first three weeks of the season were ugly as the Colts began 0-3.

Then this run started and Wentz threw two touchdowns in a Week 4 win over Miami.

Indianapolis lost a close overtime battle to Baltimore the following week and has won back-to-back games since.

Wentz’s season total stands at 11 touchdowns and only one interception, so it’s not like he was throwing picks nonstop at the start of the year.

But increasing his touchdown total in addition to protecting the ball has been the key.

Fans may have been panicking about Wentz at the start of the season.

Yet getting to 3-4 has the Colts right in the thick of the AFC playoff race, specifically for a Wild Card spot.

The 5-2 Tennessee Titans may just be too tough to catch atop the AFC South.

If Wentz can keep up his current streak, the Colts should indeed find themselves right back in the postseason come January.

That would be quite the redemption story for the former No. 2 overall pick.
