NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — A 57-year-old man was arrested and charged after police said he sexually assaulted a young girl, led police on a chase and tried to carry out suicide by cop.

According to a criminal complaint, Eddie Lambert was charged with kidnapping, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and corruption of minors among other offenses.

Police said Lambert called from the parking lot of New Kensington Sheetz gas station on Sept. 6 crying and sobbing. He told 911 operators he had a gun in his car and two young girls that were a friend’s children were with him. He said he had been drinking and that he “wants out of the situation.” He told officers the names of the girls and eventually released them to officers who were sent to the parking lot.

During the investigation, police said Lambert had called a friend about taking her daughters to get ice cream. A forensic interview was conducted later during which one of the girls told investigators Lambert had picked up her and her sister up and taken them to several places. She said Lambert assaulted her in the parking lot at Sheetz, inside a Golden Dawn market and in the bedroom of his home.

Court documents said Lambert then took off from the parking lot. Officers tried to pull him over but he eventually crossed into Allegheny County. He told 911 that he wanted the police to shoot him and that he wanted to die during the pursuit. Lambert eventually crashed into a tractor trailer and a short time later police were able to stop his vehicle. Court documents said he screamed at officers to shoot him as he was being taken into custody.

Investigators said PennDOT cameras confirmed Lambert’s vehicle was at the locations in question at the time and dates the girls said the assaults occurred.

Lambert faces charges in both Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
